At the heart of Simon’s work is an enduring commitment to his craft of painting, inspired by a sense of wonder, and the unanswered mystery that his subjects evoke - profound and powerful symbols of life’s endless cycles.
From deep beyond our universe, pulsing waves of energy drive the rhythms of life —evidenced by the tides and seasons —the ebb and flow is constant. Inspired by this cycle, each of Simon’s painting is not only an acknowledgement of a new season, but an exploration of the subconscious impact of the floral image, evoking emotions deeply connected to our shared human experience.
“Biophilia”, the term first coined by the philosopher Erich Fromm, describes this psychological orientation—our attraction to all that is alive and vital. As humans, we instinctively and subconsciously seek connection with nature. In the context of Simon’s work, the subconscious effect that flowers have on viewers is not just about beauty—it’s about reconnecting with the rhythms of life, with the Earth’s seasons and rhythms, and with the deep, primal emotions that nature stirs within us.
Flowers are the most powerful expression of life and love, and embody both the fragility and resilience of life. In a world often overshadowed by hate and division, flowers spread love in a way that transcends words. This exhibition of Simon’s work captures this power, and pays respect to his subject and the craft of painting itself. Simon invites the viewer to immerse themselves in each painting and to experience the peace and serenity that flowers represent. In this sense, painting is an act of love—a personal journey toward understanding and representing the delicate relationship between life and art.
