The inspiration behind Nic’s Roads to Nowhere series is primarily the beauty of the natural world around us. From the expansive landscapes of Tasmania’s Overland Track, through the valleys and bluffs of Central Australia’s Larapinta Trail, to the ghostly mysterious forests of Japan’s Kumanokodo Trail, the Roads to Nowhere series explores the themes of the beauty around us and our journey through it.
Life for many of us is a journey from A to B and all too often we focus on the destination or the goal and never notice the amazing beauty and vibrant life going on around us. By combining photographs of striking natural walking locations with stark, vibrant, human edited “roads” Nic looks to create a sense of unease in the viewer and by doing so attempt to nudge them to look at the road in front of them and re-examine the natural world around them.
Across the three volumes Nic has honed and experimented with his craft from the solid bold roads and moodier, darker volume 1 through to the more ghostly ethereal roads and forests of volume 3; he aims to stay true to the series theme while also pushing each volume into new unexplored territories.
'Roads to Nowhere' will run from November 15th - November 26th 2024 at Studio Gallery Waterloo, 3-7 Danks St, Waterloo.
