About Katie Eraser
Confrontations, collisions and disruptions act as co-conspirators in the visual language of
London-based Australian artist Katie Eraser. In her work, a fragmentation of the figure occurs through
pop imagery overlayed with the psychological space, referencing a multitude of styles and epochs.
Her practice offers a queering of the domestic space, where the banal and overlooked take on new
life and power. Eraser’s art is a reflection of the modern obsession with the bright and joyful exteriors
we perform which hide the reality underneath the masks we wear. Her paintings scrutinise the idea
that all is not what it seems, depicting a place where everything has the potential to become strange,
unfamiliar, sinister. Interrogating anxiety, obsession and the erotic, her work seeks to create
hallucinatory and off-kilter settings that are intentionally uncomfortable and tense. Eraser invites us to
reconsider our relationship to the spaces we inhabit and the reality of what goes on behind the mask.
